Dear Customer,
As you may have heard, the state of Illinois has implemented a new gas and diesel tax as of July 1 to
fund some of its infrastructure projects. This means tax for a gallon of diesel more than doubled.
We calculate our fuel surcharge based on the Department of Energy’s weekly national average.
However, the national average won’t be impacted much by this. Standard Forwarding, on the other
hand, is heavily impacted. Our two largest terminals (East Moline and Chicago) are in IL. Overall, we
have four terminals in IL and more than half the shipments we transport either originate or terminate in IL.
We will operationally do everything in our power to mitigate this as much as possible, for example by
fueling our line haul trucks outside IL where possible. But there nonetheless remains a significant
exposure that we can’t avoid. As such, we have to implement an IL diesel tax surcharge of $1.49 for all
shipments that originate or terminate in IL. Intra-IL shipments would not be charged twice, of course.
Shipments that travel through IL but originate and terminate in other states are not affected by this.
We want you to know this is a very difficult decision and only take this step after exploring all the other
possible alternatives. We appreciate your business and hope you understand the reason for this change.
Should you have any questions please reach out to you to your Standard Forwarding rep.

Regards,
Standard Forwarding
